Body shots, though often underutilised, are incredibly effective offensive tools, not only in boxing, but also in Muay Thai, mixed martial arts, and other striking combat sports. When used properly, however, they have such a huge impact on fights. One single well-placed body shot can take the wind out of an opponent and cause them to start breathing heavily or even drop a fighter to the canvas. They can slow down the rate of offense and hinder movement.
In the instructional video below, Engage Athlete and UFC fighter Brad Riddell covers 2 variations of a body punch: the liver rip, and the body hook. More importantly, he also goes into more detail about how to land body shots. He has also included a few examples from himself, Israel Adesanya, Roy Jones Jr., GGG, and Ricky Hatton.
