How to Angle Off Using Dabs in Kickboxing

The object of combat sport based on striking is to hit and not get hit. While some fighters develop an attacking game-plan which relies heavily on pressure, power, and wearing an opponent down, others base their offense on lateral movement and precision.

After all, they do say that the best defense is a good offense. Engage Athlete and UFC fighter Brad Riddell explains the "dab". It's a defensive move that has a built-in offense. The dab is an effective way to angle off, while keeping your head off the center-line and occupying your opponent's guard.

You can use it to get off the ropes or to reposition yourself against a pressure fighter. Included are examples of Manny Pacquiao using this against Brandon Rios in Brad’s instructional video below.
